All dogs today benefit from higher levels of quality source proteins, moderate levels of fat with a better balance of fatty acids, along with fresher quantities of vitamins and minerals and a lesser amount of bulky cereal grain carbohydrates. An optimum diet should also be highly concentrated and readily digestible so that food intake volumes better match the dog’s digestive system.

All pets deserve the optimum nutrition in VetBalance® Canine Wellness Formula.

Protein is the most important ingredient in the canine diet. Pet foods notoriously provide minimum protein levels for reasons of cost. If typical pet diets range from 20% – 30% in their protein content and the goal of nutritional supplementation is to improve these diets…then supplements must contain higher percentages of protein than the foods and these protein sources should be concentrated, high biological value sources like those found in VetBalance. Note: In the top 4 competitors to VetBalance, only one company “Wellness Super 5” has a protein source in their first five ingredients - Salmon Meal.

Flaxseed is commonly used in products today because it contains the fatty acid alpha linolenic acid a primary precursor to omega 3 fatty acids. Humans have the necessary enzymes to efficiently convert alpha linolenic acid to EPA, DHA & DPA. Dogs are not efficient converters and cats cannot convert at all. VetBalance uses a patented direct source of EPA, DHA & DPA to assure that the omega 3 content is directly supplied.

Rice Bran, Molasses, Sorghum and Oat Bran are carbohydrate sources that are direct suppliers of sugar…one ingredient that our pets do not need any more of. Todays foods provide 35% - 55% carbohydrate even though neither the dog or the cat metabolically require any dietary carbohydrate at all.

Diatomaceous Earth consists of the fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae. It is commonly used as a filtration aid for pools and as a mild abrasive. I am unaware of any nutritional value it may have for dogs.

Comment on Fiber – The digestive anatomy of the dog is that of a simple carnivore system that normally does not require more than 1-3% dietary fiber in order to function at peak performance. Adding fiber (a non-nutritive substance) to the dogs diet does little more than add cheap bulk and may potentially cause diarrhea.
